Thai 99 is located in mid-town across the street from the Lynchburg Public Library, and while the building itself is relatively nondescript, it bears no reflection to their food quality which we found to be impressive. Thai 99 offers Thai cuisine as its catchy name suggests and specializes in carnivorous, vegetarian and vegan dishes. On this occasion, we tried the Pad Thai and Spring Rolls which also came with samplings of a vegetable-packed vegetable soup and Ruam-Mit!
The Pad Thai is featured with your choice of pork, chicken or tofu, mingled in fried rice noodles, eggs and green onions, and then topped with the traditional accoutrements of bean sprouts and peanut dressings. The tamarind sauce it is prepared in is delicious and not lacking in flavor. The Pad Thai is a healthy portion of food fit for even the hungriest appetite.
Next, we tried the Chicken Springs Rolls which are a feast for all the senses. These five crunchy, translucent rice paper-wrapped veggies and chicken come with sides of pineapple and peanut sauce. They are fresh and scrumptious! We finished with dessert, Ruam-Mit, which is a coconut drink filled with bits of tapioca, fruit, palm seed and of course, jello. It’s texturally akin to Cirque de Soile.
We are overall really impressed by the quality at Thai 99, and with just over a decade of service to the ‘Burg, it is easy to see how Thai 99 has flourished!
