It is both inspiring and exciting to see the growth in Central Virginia’s gastronomic selections.  Local palates now have the opportunity to be selective and adventurous in their dining options. The culinary cultivation is truly delicious.

Yamisa Chambers, native of Thailand, opened The Blue Orchid early last month and now provides Lakeside Drive with an array of Thai cuisine. Diners may choose either dine-in, take-out or even delivery options. The converted restaurant offers ample dining space surrounding the large bar area. We chose to dine in for our first experience.

For our first taste of The Blue Orchid we chose a classic, Chicken Pad Thai, the Panang Curry and The Blue Orchid original Crying Tiger.  The Pad Thai, offered in chicken, beef, and seafood, is always a favorite because every bite features a blend of varying textures and is infused with the brilliant and complimentary flavors of coriander, lime, tamarind, garlic green onion and peanuts.   This dish alone speaks of the earthy and exotic flavors that have come to define Thai cuisine.

The rich and hearty Panang Curry is served with rice and filled with all the warm and inviting flavors that envelop Eastern comfort foods.  The Crying Tiger was an intriguing portion of grilled and sliced sirloin accompanied by seasonal vegetables and served with spicy Thai Isan sauce.

Overall, the food is fantastic! Each dish represents what we love about Thai cuisine: fresh earthy ingredients, inviting flavorful sauces, and brilliant flavor from simple produce. We look forward to savoring more visits to The Blue Orchid and wish this new restaurant the best luck!
