Market at Main is nearing its one-year anniversary and they have much to celebrate. They are a culinary culmination of deli meets diner, market meets restaurant. Their market is set to the right of the main entry and highlights many local favorites. The dining area on the left features a very high ceiling with tin tiles, large vertical fans rotating above the diner-styled bar and swiveling stools, and a smaller seating area closer to the kitchen.

What we love best about Market at Main’s atmosphere is their Lynchburg theme. Vintage pictures of the city decorate the walls and most of the menu items boast the names of Central Virginia current and former glories. Names like Ann Spencer Garden Burger, The Batteau (chilidog), Norfolk & Western (cheesy Western) and Hogtown Pork Sandwich cause locals to snicker and initiate conversation with curious visitors.

The Miller-Claytor

On this visit we sampled The Miller-Claytor with Fries and The Lynch-Burger with homemade Chips. The Miller-Claytor is a unique sandwich of battered, fried green tomatoes served with cheddar cheese and herb sauce in a soft, Challah inspired bun. This is a delightfully zesty meal. The fried green tomatoes and herb sauce are a bright offset to the sharp cheddar all set on the slightly sweet yielding bread. Our only complaint is that there wasn’t more of this sandwich to enjoy.

The Lynch-Burger is 8 ounces of Angus burger grilled to your preference served on a Kaiser roll. We chose Swiss cheese and the works to top it. I have to say, this is a good burger!  The burger is juicy, not over cooked and deliciously capped with the melted cheese.  We also enjoyed the extra crispy salty homemade chips that accompanied the Lynch-Burger.

My children dined off the Amazement Square (children’s) Menu and chose the grilled PB&J sandwich with a side of fruit. They loved this new twist to an old favorite!

The Grilled PB&J Sandwich

Market at Main extended their hours to now offer dinner and patrons can order breakfast until 3 pm. That’s right Central Virginia; it’s almost never too late to order Lynch’s Ferry Waffles! Market at Main is open Sunday 8:00-3:00, Monday – Tuesday 7:00-3:00 and
Wednesday-Saturday 7:00-9:00 .

Lynchburg supporting a Lynchburg-inspired restaurant which in-turn supports Lynchburg’s community! The concept is beautiful and dizzying!
